Text for the 2011 Calendar:
When I presented Wolf with a calendar draft to showcase his works three years ago, I simply could not understand his reaction. “Basically good, buuuut…” was roughly his response. “It’s just about reusing your motifs,” I said, “nothing more. Take a calendar template, select the images, done.” That was roughly my amateurish idea.
But Wolf would not be Wolf if he hadn’t thought the matter through thoroughly. Better no calendar at all than an unsuitable concept! He doesn’t use painting, wallpaper, or sculpture because he is a “painter,” a “wallpaper artist,” or a “sculptor,” but because the particular medium is crucial for how his work is meant to come across. So a calendar cannot simply be a calendar – it must simultaneously become an independent work on the theme of “calendar.”
And it was worth it! Wolf presents works dating back to 1992, some of which were newly reworked for this calendar. The innovative calendar layout, together with the tab system of the calendar pages, persistently evokes the office and order – thus also filing and the past. Even the motif overview on the back is subordinated to this concept. Theme and form relate perfectly to each other.
